The Ark is a programme that pairs kid up with neglected dogs so they can be trained, loved, and cared for until they are ready to be put up for adoption. The dogs that have come in so far are Beau, Mac and Lucky. These are all great dogs and amazingly good for what they have been through.
So far we have been taught how to respect others by respecting their personal space and how to treat people the right way. Also, not to let go of our power. This programme is teaching us to stand up for ourselves and gain confidence.
We have talked about how to get help when someone you trust and/or love treats you without respect, not to let go of our power and then how to fix a broken heart. Doing stuff you love, helping people out and doing something nice for someone are all things to fix a broken heart.
The way Healing Species started was from an American lady called Cheri Brown Thompson who was driving along one day and saw a dog who looked really mistreated. She pulled over and had a look at the dog. She felt sorry for him and looked for something to give to him. She found a pop tart in her car and gave it to him but he was in so much pain he did not want to eat it. So she went down to the shop to get some dog food. She came back and fed it to him every day for a week or two and she was starting to see some improvement. Then one day while she was feeding him the owners pulled up with big smiles on their faces. They said "That's the woman who has been feeding our dog". Cheri couldn't believe this dog actually had an owner!!! She could tell that these people saw Gravey with their eyes but not their hearts. Cheri asked if she could have their dog and they just said "Fine".
Cheri named her new dog Gravey. She took him to the vet and fixed him up. And over time he was a healthy dog. She came up with a programme called Healing Species which was to help dogs get trained and to help troubled children socialise with mistreated dogs and help them get a lovely new homes.
