Conrad's Rugby

On Thursday we do PE and we do rugby. People from Tasman Rugby called Ferne, Brendan and Shawn teach us how to pass, do line outs, scrums and how to tackle.

My favourite game was the Banner game because we get to rip so we can get other's tags. This is a game where you are in twos and you have to rip the tags off the other teams belts. At the end you count up your tags and whoever has the most wins.

There was also a game where there were balls in the middle of the court and there were four teams. When Shawn said go we had to run and get as many balls as we could and we could steal other's balls too. We also had a 'guard dog' who ripped off the player's tags and they had to drop the ball where they were. The team who had the most balls won the game.

We then had to put the balls back in the middle and do line outs. One person from our team was the hooker and they threw the ball into the middle of the line out. You had to be a metre away from the other team and the second person on the front line lifts up the first person. The hooker then throws the ball and the other team has to get the ball.

With scrums there were three people; two people are the props and one is the hooker. Two people go behind the other person - there are two Locks and a person behind them.

When the game starts the players do 'Paper/Scissors/Rock' and whoever wins gets to choose to receive or kick. They then kick the ball; if they droop the ball it's a scrum and they can score a try and conversion and penalty. When it's half time they get a drink and something to eat. And the coach talks to them about the game then they shake hands and someone gets player of the day and they go home.

Team Building Day!

On the 4th of March,  Fifeshire and Monaco had their Team Building Day at Isel Park.
We did lots of activities involving teamwork. One of the activities we did was
The Spider's Web.
We had to get through the net to the other side without touching both the net and the ground at the same time. We also could not go through the same hole twice. Some people jumped through, while others got help by standing on people's backs.
It was challenging trying to get through the net and involved a lot of help from others.

Another activity was Tangled.
We all had to stand in a circle and hold another person's hand from the other side of the circle. But we were not allowed to hold the person's hand beside us. Then we had to untangle ourselves from the group without letting go.

Our next activity was The Three Legged Race.
We had to do this in partners. We strapped one of our legs to one of our partner's legs. Then we raced the other groups.
Another activity was where you had to put your head on the top of the bat and spin around ten times. Then you had to run to a wicket and back.

The last activity was where you had to guide your blindfolded partner without touching them around a course.

Team Building day was awesome because we got to work with people in our class and house. We also got to learn new games and have fun.

Science Presentations

In Term 2, Room 8 had to choose a topic to do with forces, (flight, buoyancy, wind, friction etc.) and demonstrate an experiment with a buddy or by themselves…

The topics Room 8 had to choose from were:

- Wheels.
- Cogs.
- Planes and flying.
- Electricity.
- Magnets and magnetism.
- Wind.
- Sound.
- Buoyancy.
- Cars, trucks, motorbikes etc.
- Friction.
- Toys.
- Forces we can see, and forces we cannot see.

Before we demonstrated our presentation, we had to learn about our topics, and all forces.

For example, we had to learn why wheels had cogs, and match the parts of a bike to it's correct place…

Some of Room 8 had to do it in their own time, because the experiment wouldn't have worked if we didn't have the right equipment.

Here are some photo's of the great presentations students in Room 8 did…

FRICTION - Macy, Sophie, Sam B.

FRICTION - Sophie, Macy.

FRICTION - Brylee, Kaleb.

TOYS - Sara, Maria.

BUOYANCY - Paul, Shayla, Becky, Cassie, Sorraya.

BUOYANCY - Eggs.

MAGNETISM - Alisha.

TOYS - Sara.

TOYS - Sam.

FRICTION - Jordan, Lily.

Room 8's Science Experiments

Room 8 have been looking at forces for Inquiry in Term 2 and we found and experiment to do with a force which was flight, it was called a Balloon Rocket.

The three questions we had to find out about were:

- What makes the rocket go slower?
- What makes the rocket go faster?
- How could you measure the speed?

We found out that by cutting the straw it made it go slower…
So therefore, having a longer straw would make it go faster.
We used a timer, but we figured that you could also use a phone,
computer or anything with a timer on it.

Everybody in Room 8 thoroughly enjoyed doing this experiment, and it was a fun way to learn about flight.

Here are some photo's of Room 8 doing the experiment…

The Climbing Wall

Climbing Wall

On the 26th of May Room 8 went on the Climbing Wall.

For most of Room 8 it was new to them, so we had to learn all the new skills in order to be safe when using the wall.

Mr Johnstone taught us how to use the harnesses, how to belay and how to spot if there is danger.
Everyone in the class got to have a turn at climbing but we all had to do belaying aswell.

When Mr Johnstone was teaching us all about how to be safe around the climbing wall, he told us that the belayer was the most important person!

Room 8 really enjoyed it and we hope to do it again!!

Dear Kitten!

Mrs Binnie shared a video with room 8 (Dear Kitten). Dear Kitten is about an older cat welcoming a kitten into his house and giving him advice. Watch the video below. It is cute!

Then Mrs Binnie gave us a task.We had to create our own versions of Dear Kitten/Puppy

Here are some  examples of Room 8's Dear Kitten/Puppy:

Dear Puppy: DO NOT go near the girl they call Jasmine, she bites. By Kane

Dear Kitten: You will see all the new and exciting things outside and you will think yay! I'm going to have fun all day, but trust me it is the scariest thing ever! But I think you will love it. By Aimee

Dear Puppy: You will get fed at 7:30 in the morning and 5:30 at night. If you are really hungry just eat the cat biscuits but don't let them catch you. By Traye

Dear Kitten: If one day you are feeling extra hungry and you want more food, look cute and pretend you haven't had any food once they gave you free breakfasts. By Elena

Dear Kitten: Never go up to the neighbours house because they will flip you! By Ruby

Dear Kitten: The biggest room in the house with all the big spongy pillows is the cuddliest room. Be there by 6pm and you will have the best seat in the house. By Jordan

Thank you for reading our blog. By Kane and Sorraya.
